Steve Kerr認為今年的湖人隊跟2015-2016年的勇士一樣出色！Kerr指出他們擁有贏得總冠軍的信心，同時又不像以往曾經獲得過總冠軍的球隊那樣面對疲倦問題。

引用Steve Kerr談到湖人隊時說：「他們擁有贏得總冠軍的自信，他們沒有贏得多次總冠軍之後的懈怠。這就像我們在例行賽贏得73場比賽的那個賽季。」

“They have the confine that comes with winning a championship and they don’t have the fatigue that comes with winning multiple championships,” Kerr said of the Lakers. “This is really a sweet spot. It’s where we found ourselves the year we won 73.”

之後Kerr更進一步的說明湖人現在的狀態：「當你回歸的時候，那種感覺就像延續總冠軍的賽季一樣，你就站在世界之巔，每個人都很快樂，然後還在原有的基礎上增添了陣容深度，這會讓你更有自信。」

“You come back and it’s almost like a continuation of your championship season,” Kerr said about the Lakers. “You’re on top of the world. Everybody’s happy. You add some layers to what you already did. [And you have] deeper confidence in what you’re doing.”

在賽季開始之前，有球迷認為湖人不留住Rajon Rondo, JaVale McGee和Dwight Howard是最錯的抉擇。但現在似乎Dennis Schroder，Montrezl Harrell和Marc Gasol能彌補Rondo, McGee和Howard曾經為湖人提供的東西之餘，球隊的化學作用也提升了不少。再者，LeBron James和Anthony Davis在常規賽的上陣時間都比以往的少，球隊能在適當練兵的情況下獲勝。這的確讓LeBron和AD有足夠的時間儲精蓄銳，準備更重要的比賽。湖人暫時以11勝3負排在西岸第一位，領先快艇（10勝4負）一場勝場。
