Jonathan Kuminga即將在季後成為受限制自由球員，他的去向引起了不少關注。坊間和媒體普遍認為，由於Jonathan Kuminga與Steve Kerr戰術體系不太相容，勇士可能會與這名22歲的剛果前鋒達成先簽後換並將他送至一支新球隊，但當然留隊的可能性仍然存在。

據The Athletic的勇士跟隊記者Anthony Slater報導，對陣木狼的系列賽結束後聯盟消息人士稱勇士老闆Joe Lacob向Jonathan Kuminga表達了對他未來發展的信心，並希望這位年輕前鋒對回歸球隊保持開放的心態。Joe Lacob邀請Jonathan Kuminga在金州女武神的WNBA揭幕戰中與他一起坐在場邊。這一舉動在媒體上廣泛傳播，向外界傳遞了一個明確的訊號。

當然這並不能保證任何事，在Klay Thompson離開勇士加盟獨行俠的一個月前，Joe Lacob曾邀請他一起打高爾夫球。不過Anthony Slater表示，要Joe Lacob批准對Jonathan Kuminga進行先簽後換的交易將會有頗大的難度。

That isn’t a guarantee of anything. Lacob invited Thompson to play golf the month before Thompson left the franchise for the Dallas Mavericks. But it’ll be a high bar to clear for Lacob to greenlight a sign-and-trade where he parts with Kuminga.

事實上Joe Lacob對Jonathan Kuminga的欣賞由來已久，雙方的關係一直頗為緊密，2024年1月就有消息指Joe Lacob拒絕同意將Jonathan Kuminga加入包裹以交換當時仍在速龍的Pascal Siakam。

本賽季Jonathan Kuminga在常規賽出戰47場比賽，其中10場正選，場均上場24.3分鐘，可以貢獻15.3分、4.6個籃板、2.2次助攻、投籃命中率45.4%，三分命中率35.3%。季後賽首輪對陣火箭的系列賽他多次被DNP，上陣時間甚少。不過次輪由於Stephen Curry的受傷，Steve Kerr重新啟用Jonathan Kuminga，對陣木狼的系列賽這名年輕前鋒場均出戰27.4分鐘，貢獻20.8分、3.0個籃板、1.2次助攻、投籃命中率54.3%，三分命中率42.1%。
