馬刺對雷霆的賽前，Gregg Popovich主動談到愛將Kawhi Leonard。
在之前一仗對勇士的比賽中，Kawhi Leonard成功從Stephen Curry手上搶得皮球，然後一口氣完成快攻。Popovich對那一球非常滿意。他指出Leonard從偷球到完成快攻後，表情都沒有變化，沒有握緊拳頭，也沒有耍帥做傻事。Leonard只是什麼都沒有做我返回自己後場，面上看起來就面無聊得要死。而Popovich就是喜歡這樣的Leonard。

He didn't raise his fist or look cool to the crowd or do any of this stupid-ass stuff. He didn't do a thing. He just goes the other direction, like he's bored to death. I love that about him.”

下半季，這位上屆總決賽MVP擺脫眼疾，表現越來越好。在上場對勇士的比賽中上陣24分鐘，便17投11中，取得26分、5個籃板、3個助攻、7個偷球。

而在對雷霆的比賽，他同樣上陣24分鐘，在15投10中的情況下，取得了26。其中他單在第一節已拿下12分，協助馬刺輕鬆取勝。
