DeRozan在夏天努力訓練三分，為自己及球隊增加進攻武器

過去，速龍得分後衛DeMar DeRozan一直在三分線內發動進攻。上個球季，他只有8.9%的起手來自三分線外，而他的三分命中率也只有28.9%。而DeRozan超過5成的起手，則是來自距離籃框10尺以內的投籃。DeRozan固然能夠切入籃下以作為進攻手段，但若他需要變得更全面，外圍能力必須提高。
據<多倫多太陽報>報導，DeRozan在今年夏天努力練習三分，而他的新隊友DeMarre Carroll也對此表達了一些意見。Carroll表示Kyle Korver曾跟他說投三分球的秘訣只是透過重覆練習，他認為只要DeRozan繼續苦練，最終也會成功。此外，Carroll更認為，DeRozan開發三分球後，將會帶領球隊進入更高層次。

引用“(NBA three-point leader) Kyle Korver told me the three-point shot is just more repetition. The more you shoot it, the better you’ll get at it. I feel like if DeMar will keep working on it, it will eventually come.”

“I’m pretty sure there’s a lot of other things he worked on in his game and he’s a dominant offensive player (already). So I think if he adds that three-point to his game it’ll take us over the top.”

去年，速龍的三分起手次數，排在聯盟中的第9位。在Lou Williams離開後，DeRozan開發三分球確實會增加球隊在陣地戰的進攻火力。不過，速龍來季首要目標是加強防守，假若球隊能加強由守轉攻的效率，快攻的機會便會增加。上個球季，速龍的快攻數字只是排在聯盟下游而已。

過去速龍在季後賽的表現也令人失望，若他們希望在成績有所突破，球員自身必須提升實力，否則便有如傳聞所言，需要更換教練和主力球員以進行重組。
